Havant and Waterlooville produced a smash and grab raid to condemn Eastbourne Borough to their second defeat of the season on a torrential night at Priory Lane.

Danny Simmonds had given Borough the lead in the 11th minute but two goals in three second-half minutes from David Town and James Taylor just after the hour gave the visitors the points.

Borough boss Garry Wilson said: "We deserved to win the game but we paid the price for a lack of concentration. You cannot afford to switch off in this division but we will learn our lesson from that.

"We are disappointed we still have not got any points but if we play like that for the rest of the season we will win more than we lose."

Defeat was harsh on Borough who dominated for an hour and had plenty of chances to extend their lead. Daren Pearce should have put the home team ahead even before Simmonds slid home from Ollie Rowland's cross but he put his shot too close to keeper Gareth Howells.

Simmonds also put a header just over the bar and Richard Harris clipped the outside of a post just after the restart but after that the rain stopped and Havant took control.

On the hour mark Lee Hook produced a brilliant save to deny former Crawley loan striker Gavin Holligan and also blocked Town's follow up but was helpless to stop Town blasting home the loose ball.

Three minutes later Holligan's cross found Taylor unmarked at the far post for a simple finish.
