Virgin founder Richard Branson is the most popular business leader in the UK, a survey has revealed.

Research found that Sir Richard, whose empire includes Crawley-based airline Virgin Atlantic, was rated number one entrepreneur by 63 per cent of those questioned.

No one else came close to the businessman. Body Shop founder Anita Roddick, who opened her first shop in Brighton, was ranked second with nine per cent of the vote.

The poll, conducted by NOP for Lewis PR, found that 61 per cent admired Branson for his business flair and 53 per cent for his media work.

Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of easyJet, was third with four per cent while three per cent of voters said they admired retail tycoon Philip Green.

The study also found that Post Office chief executive and former FA boss Adam Crozier was admired by just five of the 1,000 people questioned.

NOP questioned people from across the UK.
