In reply to Penny Hajduk (Letters, August 9), the North Laine Traders Association have not decided that a round window is not acceptable or complained about it.
We do not get involved with planning proposals unless it is a change from retail or workshop space to expensive live/work units which are often too expensive for the type of funky business's which North Laine attracts.
The community association did object to the window after local residents complained about it at a monthly community meeting.
Interestingly, rumour has it that a major fast food chain was looking at premises in North Laine last year. They decided against it after being advised that their illuminated signs and window alterations would not be allowed in a conservation area.
Perhaps North Laine has evolved into such a pleasant form with small scale, locally-based businesses because it is a conservation area.
