Adam Virgo proved manager Mark McGhee wrong with a late goal to give Albion their first point in the Coca-Cola Championship.

McGhee was worried about his Mercedes convertible, parked in the car park behind the Coventry net at Withdean, when the young defender stepped up to take a free-kick from 30 yards.

But Virgo scored with a minute left to wipe out Coventry's 1-0 lead rather than McGhee's prize possession.

"As he lined it up I was fearing for my car," said McGhee. "I didn't think for a minute it was going to go in the back of the net. I was cringing actually but I was as surprised and delighted as anyone.

"We know he's got the power but sometimes he has been a bit wayward."

Virgo said: "I think he had bets on me hitting it in the flats, cars, trees, stand, everything but the goal. But I proved him wrong, which is nice.

"The minute the foul was given I thought it was more in my range than for Darren Currie to hit it up and over the wall. It wasn't the best connection but they all count."

Depleted Albion, still bottom of the table after three matches, expect to have the same number of players back for Saturday's visit to Wigan. Dan Harding, currently with the England under-21 squad for tomorrow night's friendly against Ukraine at Middlesbrough, will be available after suspension along with last season's top scorer Leon Knight.

Midfielder Charlie Oatway could also return from the hamstring injury which has ruled him out of the last two games.
