Crawley's new signing Danny Davidson believes he will score goals in the Conference next season.

The 6ft 5in former Stafford Rangers striker agreed a two-year contract before Saturday's goalless friendly against Hornchurch at Broadfield Stadium.

Davidson, 24, scored 19 goals for Stafford in the Dr Martens premier division last season. He is a former Derby County apprentice and had previous Conference experience with Hereford as well as spells at Leek Town and Burton Albion.

Davidson said: "I always had ambitions to get back into the Conference after I left Hereford so I jumped at the chance to join.

"I am very impressed by the organisation of the club and the quality of players in the squad.

"Crawley will hold their own in the Conference next season and, hopefully, I can help them do it. I haven't set any scoring targets, but I have scored goals before so I'm confident I will again."

Assistant manager Dave Swindlehurst said: "He is big, strong and will be a handful during the course of the season. When he fits into the squad and the pattern of play we want to use, he will be a real asset.

"We know him from when he played against us last year and he scored a lot of goals for Stafford, so we are delighted to have him."

Midfielder Paul Armstrong will miss the first ten games of the new season due to a knee injury.

The former Albion playmaker damaged his left cartilage in training and will have an operation this week.

Swindlehurst said: "Paul will be out for the first eight weeks, which is a big blow. We might have to bring someone in as cover as well as trying to fill some other positions in the squad.

"The left side needs a bit of strengthening and we need a centre half, but it's all about money now.

"We already have 18 players signed and we can't stretch the budget too much further."

Conference south Eastbourne Borough maintained their unbeaten pre-season record with a 1-0 win over Dover Athletic at Priory Lane.

Midfielder Daren Pearce scored the only goal of the game mid-way through the first half.

Worthing beat Hastings United 4-0 with Sam Francis (two), Phil Ruggles and Nko Ekoku on target.
