David Norris is through to the final of the world championship Grand Prix qualifying competition after a gutsy display in Belgium.
The Eastbourne Eagles captain had to win his last race to grab one of the top eight places against an international line-up at Heusden-Zolder.
Norris came off the outside gate to beat Niklas Klingberg, Theo Pijper and former Eastbourne star Stefan Danno and is now the only British rider left in the event which began with 72 riders.
He said: "The track was horrendous. There was no passing. It was a gater's paradise. It was great if you had a good set-up for the start, but unfortunately we didn't.
"I changed bikes for my last ride and it worked great for me. All the guys who went with me were fantastic and worked really hard. In the end, it was a job done."
Norris, who qualified with nine points, was placed sixth after finishing third in one of the semi-finals and now goes to Denmark for the final at Vojens in August in the shoot-out for a place in next year's Grand Prix series.
The Belgian meeting was won by Peter Karlsson. Former Eagle Stefan Andersson also got through, but Danno missed out.
