Brighton-born-born typographer Eric Gill was also known for his erotic engravings.
The story I like best about him was that when he was commissioned by the BBC to produce a suitable statue for the then-new Broadcasting House in Langham Place, the result was a delightful cherub.
However, it had to be removed after many protests because the cherub was "too well endowed" and was taken down for "improvements".
I have never believed the story that the Ditchling commune of artists was, in fact, Gill's harem of mistresses.
I have some personal connections with Gill for, besides being a typographer myself from the Camberwell Art School, I was asked to make an inventory of his equipment and possessions for charity purposes in the 1960s.
