The Green Party has taken to the streets in traffic-choked Brighton Pavilion with zero emission electioneering.

Its candidate Keith Taylor has abandoned the traditional campaign minibus and is using an electric-powered tricycle as his official campaign vehicle.

He said: "Using a trike instead of some gas-guzzling battle bus to spread the Green message shows just how different the party is."

He said the three main parties were doing nothing to cut the number of vehicles on the road, which is predicted to rise by 17 per cent before the end of the decade.

He said: "They are ignoring even the simple ways in which they can make a difference to pollution and climate change.

He said: "We need to be developing alternatives to private car use, such as efficient and cheap bus and trams systems, more bike and bus lanes."
