I read the letter from Daisy Burgess (Letters, June 2) and was astounded by her comments.

The vicar did not propose to move the Post Office to St George's Church. Some time ago the postmaster approached him and he put the request to the board of trustees for the Kemp Town Crypt Community Centre (50 per cent of whom are members of the church and 50 per cent are from user groups of the centre).

When it became clear that there was no other site available the Trustees decided to co-operate. There is a high percentage of elderly residents in this area and it would be a great hardship for them if there was no local post office, the nearest being in the bottom part of St James's Street or Whitehawk Road. It seems that Ms Burgess does not care at all about people and their needs.

Her comments about the crypt are unfounded too - it meets many real needs and is a friendly and welcoming place.
