Time is running out for companies to enter the prestigious Sussex Business Awards 2004.

The most outstanding large and small organisations in the county will be recognised at the event.

Entrants for the Sussex Company of the Year award, sponsored by Crawley-based Deloitte & Touche, will have to demonstrate outstanding performance in more than one aspect of their business.

The award is open to businesses with more than 25 employees based in, or conducting most of their business from, Sussex.

Principal judge Neil Harris, from Deloitte & Touche, will be looking at everything from how the business has performed in recent years to its processes for developing products and services, marketing, customer care, the involvement of employees in business decisions and contributions to the community.

Last year's winner was Brighton-based Mistral Internet, which is one of Britain's leading internet service providers.

The company has grown steadily over the past 18 months and puts something back into the community by sponsoring Brighton Kite Surfing and the Brighton Festival.

The Small Business Award, sponsored by Seeboard Energy, is open to any Sussex business with 25 employees or less.

Judges are looking for companies to demonstrate successful products and services, how obstacles have been tackled since starting up, sound financial management, staff training and community work.

The winner of the Small Business Award in 2003 was The Sussex Sign Company, from Newhaven, which provides signs, graphics and printing throughout the UK.

The judges were impressed by the company's strong entrepreneurial spirit, low staff turnover and excellent reputation resulting in customer loyalty.

Firms can register for entry online at www.sussex-business-awards.co.uk, or call Caroline Thorpe on 01273 207155 to request the entry booklet.

Entries must be received no later than July 9.
