Keith Jago's call (Letters, May 27) for depth and circumspection was hilariously lacking in any such qualities. Finishing with "It's time to go, Tony, before you do further damage to Britain" had the typical characteristics of the 'phoney Tony' brigade.

Depth of knowledge, Mr. Jago, means you cannot blame the PM for 'non-existent procedures' when MPs left the Commons after the flour bomb incident because such procedures are overseen by all-party committees and not the Prime Minister's office.

Circumspection, Mr. Jago, means you are cautious in what you say and do. Perhaps now you can see the funny side of your misplaced tirade.
