How depressing it was to read The Argus last week.

I really would not want to be around in a hundred years' time to witness the result of the vandalism of our country in the name of profit and the "squeeze 'em all in" philosophy which typifies today's architecture.

There will be no more detached bungalows and houses - we will just have concrete blocks everywhere.

How can anyone think of demolishing beautiful houses? Would they really rather see a concrete block in its place?

We should be building bigger houses to encourage families to live together in extended units.

They don't have to be expensive just because they are large. Some new houses which are described as family homes are a laughable size. What use is a bedroom measuring eight feet by six? That's a cupboard.

These newer homes usually have tiny windows so they must be dismal inside.

We have been looking for a large house with an annexe so in-laws can move in and three generations will be together but they are almost non-existent.

They have all been demolished to "make way for" (horrible expression) yet more flats. No wonder Brighton and Hove is so congested. Can anyone honestly say the London Road area of Preston Park has been improved by the wholesale demolition of the large villas years ago and the erection of vast blocks of flats?
