I recently spent some time in the Newhaven Rehabilitation Hospital after initial treatment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital for a fractured femur.

What immediately struck me was the general care for the well-being of the patients by all the staff.

The nursing and physiotherapy care was excellent and the food was good, even to the extent of providing alternative menu choices.

However, above all else the whole building was kept really clean.

Each room was cleaned daily and washed on each weekday and sometimes also at the weekend.

The toilets and washbasins were cleaned and disinfected and towels were changed regularly.

Cards and other objects were moved so the furniture could be dusted properly and, on one occasion, a young member of the housekeeping staff even took cloth and knife to the edge of the individual chair-side table to make sure no speck of dirt remained.

A grateful patient from Peacehaven
