Rico Alderson is likely to be given the all-clear for Brighton Bears' assault on the BBL play-offs.

The Bears star, ejected in the final minute of Saturday's title-clinching defeat of Leicester Riders, will receive a one-game ban.

If the club do not appeal, he will miss Sunday's home clash with London Towers.

League disciplinary officers have yet to study footage of the incident, which also saw Riders' Chris Webber and John Smith ejected.

If they decide a further ban is necessary, that would not come into force until May 1, the date of the play-off semi-finals, though such an eventuality is unlikely.

League chief Mike Smith was at Saturday's game but said he did not clearly see the incident in which Webber aimed a punch at Alderson as the championship party was just getting into full swing.

Bears' video of the game has been leant to television companies eager to publicise the title win.

Ejection from a game carries seven penalty points, not enough for a ban, but Alderson already had three points for improper conduct after the BBL Cup defeat at Sheffield in October.

Randy Duck, who coached Bears on Saturday, has condemned Webber over the incident.

He said: "I really hate to see that on such a good night.

"To have that tarnish the last minute of the game really reflects poorly on him as a character.

"They are losing by 50 points and they want to kick-off like that. It's a testament to his character and it's not very good in my opinion."

Bears have confirmed the play-off quarter-final with Milton Keynes at the Brighton Centre will take place on Saturday, April 17, with a 6pm tip-off.

Coach Nick Nurse has refused to predict play-off success for his men in the end of season knockout.

Bears should overcome Milton Keynes but Nurse is wise enough to know the final four at the NIA will be more of a lottery.

He did, however, let slip that he and his team really fancy another crack at Scottish Rocks, the side who have beaten them twice recently.

Privately, Nurse started relishing the prospect of a re-match with Rocks, coached by his old mate Steve Swanson, as soon as Bears thrashed Chester recently.

On Saturday, though, as he enjoyed the post match scenes, he spelt it out more clearly. He said: "I know it's a difficult challenge. For some reason there are very bad odds on the league champion winning the play-offs.

"I think we have one more interesting game that would need to take place. One game these guys are interested in.

"I think we'll work very hard to see if that game can happen."

Would that game be against the Rocks?" Reply: "Yeah."

And is that on the record now? Reply: "Sure is."
