I have found a way in which we can all be pleased to have the work of Frank Gehry on the Hove seafront.

The council's ambitions will be satisfied and residents placated.

While strolling about the Brighton Museum, I noticed some of his work on display. These were public seats of fascinating and, quite possibly, comfortable design.

Let us then engage Mr Gehry to design a series of seats for the seafront. This is surely the direction in which his talent finds its fullest expression.

If he successfully fulfills this commission, he could be offered the opportunity of replacing the new ones in George Street, which I once described in these columns as "an affront to every resident's rear."
