Albion manager Mark McGhee is trying to add Australian midfielder Paul Reid to his promotion-seeking squad today, providing he can afford him.

McGhee is keen to sign the trialist from Bradford on a free transfer for the rest of the season.

Reid, 24, made his debut in the Reserves last week.

McGhee revealed: "We like the boy. He seems a good type and a good player.

"He has fitted in well. It will depend how much it is going to cost us to take him between now and the end of the season.

"If it is cheap enough then we probably will take him.

"I've not seen enough of him to make a decision based purely on football, but we have seen enough to think he is worth looking at.

"Because of the transfer deadline on Thursday we need to make a decision.

"It has got to be economical and it has got to work for us."

Reid, an Australian under-20 international from Sydney, joined Bradford after four seasons with Wollongong Wolves.

He scored twice on his home debut against Norwich last season and made seven more appearances for City in the First Division, including a 3-2 defeat at Withdean.

Reid was recommended to McGhee by Millwall's Tim Cahill, another midfielder from Sydney, who played under the Albion manager for the FA Cup semi-finalists.

"Their parents live in the same street, so it is not surprising he has a bit of affection for the boy, but he was positive about the lad," McGhee said.

McGhee still hopes to use his final loan on another attacker before the transfer deadline.

Meanwhile, physio Malcolm Stuart is confident captain Danny Cullip (thigh) will be fit for the trip to Hillsborough.
