Up to 150 jobs are being axed after a struggling toiletries manufacturer in Eastbourne confirmed it will close.

Officials at Bodycare Toiletries Ltd revealed they were considering closing its factory in Brampton Road, Hampden Park, in October.

A 90-day consultation period was set in motion involving staff and their representatives after letters were drafted informing them of the cost-cutting plans.

However, today it emerged managers have announced all manufacturing operations excluding aerosol production will end by June.

Officials blame volatile changes in market conditions in the UK's manufacturing sector.

However, they promised to give staff career counselling. All staff and shop floor employees would be hit by the job cuts, according to a company statement today.

It said: "Every effort will be made to minimise the effect of the closure, with the company working with employees to give assistance on career counselling and job seeking for vacancies in alternative Bodycare International Group operations and externally as appropriate.

"While the restructure of manufacturing reduces Bodycare Toiletries Ltd's operations in the UK, the majority of the production undertaken on this site will remain in the UK and will be manufactured and supplied from the Preston site."
