The man who left a nine-year-old boy dying in the road after an accident was driving without a licence (The Argus, January 6).

When someone sells a car, it should be compulsory for the buyer's name, address and driving licence number to be entered on the transfer form and sent to the DVLA.

If the person selling the car does not comply, they should be fined.

If the person wishing to buy cannot produce their licence, they should not be able to purchase a vehicle.

If a false name or licence number is given, the DVLA can contact the police. Roadside dealing should also be banned.
