Two teenage tearaways have been banned from a town centre after abusing residents and traders for months during drinking binges.

Daniel Dye, 18, and James Jeater, 19, both of Stansway, Horsham, could face up to five years in jail if they breach the order, which also bans them from meeting up with each other in public.

The two-year orders were made by Mid Sussex magistrates yesterday for dozens of offences against residents and traders.

Horsham Neighbourhood Policing Team Officer PC Andy Burfoot said: "We have compiled about 50 statements from people who have been affected and the conditions attached to the order are the most I have seen.

"Over the past six months these two youths have been involved in the type of violent and anti-social behaviour which destroys the quality of life of residents."

Police spent six months compiling evidence of violent and abusive language and behaviour, criminal damage and drunken behaviour.

Magistrates imposed an interim anti-social behaviour order, which prohibits Jeater and Dye from entering most of Horsham town centre and associating with each other in a public place.

Both Dye and Jeater were also each jailed for ten weeks on criminal charges.

Dye admitted a charge of theft, two of criminal damage, one of resisting a police officer and another of causing a police officer to be in fear of provocation or violence.

Jeater admitted two charges of being drunk and disorderly, two thefts, two charges of criminal damage, one of possession of cannabis and another of possessing a 7in kitchen knife.
