A successful boxer is set to swap his shorts for a G-string after being invited to become a male stripper.

Millions of people watching ITV's This Morning saw 22-year-old Aaron Balmer compete against two other hopefuls for a chance to join The Dreamboys male glamour show.

The light-middleweight slugger had to dance in front of presenters Fern Britten and Philip Schofield before viewers had to vote for their favourite would-be hunk.

Aaron, of Chatham Road, Worthing, came top and will now take to the stage with the proper Dreamboys in London's Alexandra Palace, which could see him offered a contract to join the show.

Aaron said: "Only last week I was fighting in the ring. I never thought I would be considering hanging up my boxing gloves to wear a G-string."

His chance for a new career took Aaron completely by surprise as he was entered by his mum without his knowledge.

He said: "I only found out from a friend phoning me last week to say he had seen my picture on the television.

"I was completely shocked when they phoned up asking if I wanted to go on the show."

Although toned and fit, Aaron has never considered himself to have the beefcake build normally sported by male strippers.

He said: "The two other guys were totally different to me. One bloke was an 18st personal trainer and the other guy said he worked out every day. All I ever really do is cardio work like running and sparring.

"I've never really touched weights before so I was very surprised to be picked in the first place, never mind win the competition."

Proud mum Denise, 52, who also lives in Worthing, was delighted with her son's performance away from the ring.

She said: "I thought he did brilliantly as he is a boxer and has never been a dancer. But he had to do it all off the top of his head so he has clearly got a bit of rhythm.

"I decided to enter him after seeing other people sending in pictures. I happened to have a really nice picture of Aaron so I sent it off.

"Aaron keeps himself very fit through his boxing. He doesn't drink or smoke and works very hard so he deserves a break.

"In my books it is a lot safer to be a dancer than a boxer but I will back him in whatever he decides."

Although Aaron, who lives with his girlfriend Anna Mastromaino, 22, admits he will always be a boxer at heart, the chance to dance has its attractions.

He said: "Boxing has always been my dream but this is an opportunity I can't really turn down so I'll see what happens.

"I didn't have a clue how big The Dreamboys were but they have performed all over the world and just come back from a tour to Australia.

"If they offer me the chance to travel the world while paying me lots of money it will be hard to turn down."

If he does choose the showbiz life, Aaron is confident his regular performances in front of hordes of screaming women will not affect his relationship with long-term girlfriend Anna.

"We have been together for more than three years and she is very important to me. We have already talked about it and she said she will support me 100 per cent whatever happens."
