The hunt for a fugitive dubbed Britain's most-wanted woman has again intensified after a possible sighting in Hove.

Fiona Mont, 33, known as The Cat, has been on the run for almost four years after twice jumping bail, faking her suicide and fleeing abroad.

But a recent claimed sighting in Hove could indicate she is back on home turf.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Fitzgerald said: "We have received information about a possible sighting. Calls such as these are gratefully received and we take them very seriously.

"We are investigating the information passed to us thoroughly."

Mont was first arrested in 1999 after undercover officers went into her flat in Sackville Road, Hove, to buy a computer linked to a major fraud case.

She is alleged to be among fraudsters who set up bogus companies, buying computers and office equipment before selling them on.

The suppliers were never paid and Mont vanished as the demand letters threatening legal action piled up at her home.

The former Roedean pupil was bailed after her arrest and then faked her own suicide by abandoning her car at Beachy Head in Eastbourne.

An extensive search for her body was only called off after her mother, former East Sussex County Council leader Joan Mont, reported speaking to her on the phone.

She was eventually tracked down living in a caravan on the Costa del Sol in Spain in January last year.

But a blunder meant she was granted bail before she could be extradited, giving her the chance to go on the run again.

She has not been heard of since.
