Lewes fans certainly got value for money after one of the most dramatic finishes to a game ever seen at the Dripping Pan.

The Rooks looked as though they were cruising into the third round as they led 2-1 with two minutes to go against Cinderford in a replay of last week's 3-3 draw.

And they finally got there but only after an incredible four more goals in four minutes.

Cinderford equalised on 88 minutes only for Lewes to go ahead again through an own goal a minute later.

Extra time looked inevitable when the visitors again got back on level terms but a close-range finish from Marc Whiteman in added time won it for Lewes.

The Rooks now take on Dr Martens League premier division leaders Weymouth at home in the third round.

Manager Steven King said: "From the fans' point of view it was an unbelievable finish and they must have gone through every emotion. From a manager's point of view it was heart attack stuff.

"We had so many chances to kill them off during the game but didn't do it until it really mattered. I have never seen anything like it but, to be honest, I don't really want to see it again.

"If we defend like we did at the end against Weymouth, then we'll be in serious trouble."

Lewes dominated the early stages and took just 16 minutes to open the scoring when a corner by Danny Davis found Marc Cable, who fired in from eight yards at the back post.

It got twice as good eight minutes later when Paul Kennett, with Cinderford defenders backing off him, hit a 20-yard drive into the bottom right-hand corner.

Lewes had thrown away a two-goal lead in the first game and on 32 minutes they were given another reminder of the visitors' attacking threats when Kidderminster-loanee Mick Heath pulled a goal back with a low shot from outside the box.

It looked like deja-vu for the home side when Ross MacMillan began the grandstand finish with an angled shot which beat goalkeeper Dominique Jean-Zepherin at his near post.

Lewes appeared to have won it when Cinderford defender Clayton Hook turned an attempted clearance into his own net but play immediately switched to the other end and Aaron Farrell sidefooted into the top corner to level the scores again.

However, Whiteman saved the day for Lewes and left the home supporters with something to remember.
