Albion manager Mark McGhee has branded QPR defender Clarke Carlisle a "bully" following his role in the booking which has cost Leon Knight a ban.

Television replays showed Knight was caught off the ball by Carlisle during the second half of Sunday's LDV Vans Trophy exit at Loftus Road.

No action was taken against the Rangers centre half but Knight was cautioned and misses the home match against Wycombe on Boxing Day.

McGhee originally thought Rangers keeper Nick Culkin was the culprit. "I haven't seen it again myself but everyone tells me, including Leon, that he was struck by the lad Carlisle," said the Seagulls boss.

"He was just being a bully. Leon is a wee boy and he's an easy target. I think it's a shame and I would hope Ian (Holloway) would look at it.

"We are not going to make a scene, that's the end of it as far as I am concerned, but I would like to think Ian will look at it and realise something did go on."

Albion are on the verge of stretching the loan spell of Mark Yeates from Spurs. The influential young midfielder's month expires after Friday night's home game against Port Vale.

McGhee said: "We are just waiting for confirmation from Spurs that he will be allowed to stay but we are very hopeful that it will at least be extended by another month.

"We have very positive feedback from Spurs about how they feel about him being here."

If Yeates is allowed to stay then Tottenham will be able to instantly recall the Republic of Ireland prospect, who has impressed in four matches with Albion.

McGhee said: "I have spoken to David Pleat and he has been very generous in his attitude towards Mark being here, but they have several players on four bookings, they are in the FA Cup and they could find themselves in January needing players.

"What works against us is how well Mark has done. Spurs will now look at him and think he could be on their bench."

Zesh Rehman's second month on loan from Fulham also expires with the Port Vale match. McGhee said: "I need to speak to them."

Adam Virgo, sent-off against QPR last week, makes his last appearance before a three-match ban in the Reserves at Southend on Wednesday (2pm).

Albion Reserves: May; Breach, Hinshelwood, Virgo, Harding, Beck, Pitcher, Budd, B. Watson, Marney, Windsor.
