Things are looking up for Haywards Heath after they recorded their third win in four games in National Three South.

A comfortable 21-3 victory at Dings Crusaders saw Heath climb to eighth in the table and skipper Alex Meredith says the only way is up from here on in.

"We have said as a team that we are not going to fall below fifth from bottom for the rest of the season and are instead going to start looking towards the top of the table," said Meredith.

"There is no reason why we can't keep this good run going and the team is full of confidence that we can finish as high as sixth or seventh rather than worrying about relegation."

Heath travelled to Bristol knowing that victory was important if they were to achieve their aim of securing a place in the middle of the table with Dings starting the day just a point behind them.

But the ease with which Heath recorded their second win in a row has reinforced their belief that they are a force to be reckoned with in the National League.

"We knew it was going to be tough because there was a lot of pressure on winning the points but to be honest they never really looked like troubling us," said Meredith.

"Although we didn't play particularly well we dominated what was a very scrapy game. Now we are not even contemplating going down and have set ourselves the goal of winning our next two games to reach Christmas with 12 points."

Meredith himself gave Heath the lead with a try after Dings had opened the scoring with a penalty before further tries from Adrian Cassidy and Adam Phillips plus two Huw Griffin penalties rounded off victory.

Meredith said: "It was a horrible place to go to and the game was one of the most boring I have ever played in so I am glad we came away with the points to make the trip worthwhile."
