The councillor for environment when the majority of the restricted parking zones were introduced and parking control was handed over to NCP was John Ballance, a highly-respected member of Labour's inner circle.
Where is he now? In the local elections, he came fourth in Hanover and Elm Grove ward (three seats) behind a couple of Green Party candidates and Labour's Joyce Edmond-Smith.
Labour's current environment committee chairwoman, Councillor Gill Mitchell, should take note. There is a strong feeling about the proposal to extend parking restrictions into zone C, an area that has rejected this before.
Her East Brighton ward, containing zone H, borders the proposed zone C extension.
The people who elected her hold zone H residents' permits.
If they can't find a space, they can park in the proposed zone C extension area.
Where will they go? Who will they vote for next time?
