A lot was written last week about a mother and baby being taken to Manchester. I wonder if people realise just how many premature babies there are in the Trevor Mann Unit.

Yesterday, I visited this unit to see my great-granddaughter, who weighed 1lb 14oz. It is only thanks to this unit and its very dedicated staff that both mother and child are surviving.

Until I went into one ward full of similar babies, I had no idea just how many they had to cope with and how it must have hurt them to read the reports.

No doubt the main concern was to get the best help for both mother and baby whether it be in Brighton or elsewhere.
