A late goal by new signing Mark Watson was enough to secure a hard fought victory for division one south leaders Lewes against Whyteleafe at a windswept Dripping Pan.
After a fairly uneventful first half hour the home side took the lead on 32 minutes when Dean Clark's shot from the edge of the box was deflected past Whyteleafe keeper Michael Lidbury.
Watson, making his league debut for Rooks after signing from Woking, wasted a golden opportunity to open his account for the club just after the break and it appeared costly when the visitors drew level through Mark Tompkins.
However, Watson struck on 88 minutes with an acrobatic strike to complete an 11th successive home win for Lewes.
