Some individuals seem to regard the recent burning of the gypsy caravan as being in the bonfire tradition and therefore not be taken too seriously.

The implication is that travellers, like politicians, are "fair game". I reject this view.

Powerful people in the public eye are perfectly able to defend themselves and are, therefore, reasonable targets for bonfire societies but it is different when an entire minority group is demonised in this way.

Many travellers are decent people who want to live their lives free of persecution. They don't all go around trashing places.
