FA Vase: Rye and Iden United will appeal against Duncan McArthur's red card during last Saturday's 1-0 defeat against Oakwood.

The midfielder, who was released by both Albion and Hastings United due to disciplinary problems, was sent off in the second half of the Sussex RUR Cup match for violent conduct but manager Glyn White is hoping to have the decision overturned.

He said: "The referee sent him off for a punch but he was the only person in the whole ground who saw it.

"It was absolutely nothing and we will definitely be appealing as a ban would be five weeks which could mean him missing ten games."

White was sent from the dugout in the same match.

McArthur will miss tomorrow's trip to Hailsham Town in the FA Vase due to flu. He is one of nine players unavailable for the game as White keeps faith with the youth side which earned a 2-2 draw against Ringmer on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the Vase this weekend, Pagham boss Paul Gilbert will ask his players to raise their game for the club's biggest match ever against AFC Wimbledon.

The Lions take on the Dons at Nyetimber Lane on Sunday before what could be around 1,500 fans.

Gilbert wants his charges to put behind them a poor league run and give a good account of themselves for such a high-profile clash.

He said: "We've not been at our best but we must raise it all round for this one. This will be the biggest match most of the players will have been involved in and they have to come off the pitch at the end knowing they gave their all. There will be no shame if they do that.

"The atmosphere at the club is great and we just need to get back to winning habits. If we can give a good show, win, lose or draw, we can get something out of the game."

Lions striker Lee Stevens said: "We know the odds are stacked against us but we'll give it our best shot and if we can score early on, who knows what can happen?"
