An early wake-up call from Brighton tribute band The Railing Stains may just stretch showman David Blaine beyond even his remarkable limits of endurance.

The Rolling Stones tribute band are gearing up to give Blaine a dawn chorus beneath his Perspex box that will take his mind off his grumbling stomach.

Brown Sugar, Little Red Rooster and Not Fade Away are just some of the Stones numbers the band plan to blast out on Friday - two weeks into the American illusionist's self-imposed imprisonment.

They will play from a makeshift stage beneath the suspended plastic box which Blaine currently calls home during his extended fast.

Lead singer Bob Ward, who lives in Patcham, said: "We thought we'd cheer him up because he's looking a bit miserable and all he's doing is waving and scratching. We're hoping to get him dancing.

"And it's something for the commuters to enjoy on their way to work."

Blaine is now 12 days into the 44-day endurance stunt suspended 30ft above the ground in a plastic box in central London.

On Monday he admitted that the feat was taking its toll and said: "I wonder how much longer 'til my mind goes away - not permanently, but before I go a little crazy?"

If the Railing Stains have anything to do with it, it may happen a lot sooner than he thinks.

Their manager Mark Turner said: "This gig is really important to us.

"If David Blaine can sit suspended in a box in the centre of London then why can't we do a gig there to keep him company? After all, we're entertainers too."

The Railing Stains are to provide the music for a film about Brian Jones which they are to start recording in January.

The Rolling Stones refused to allow the original music to be used.
