Neighbours fear a proposed nursery in a suburban street in Worthing will add to traffic chaos on their roads.

Plans to turn a house in Bolsover Road, Worthing, into a day nursery for 24 children have sparked objections.

The application is to be considered by Worthing planners on Tuesday.

If approved, in line with the officers' recommendations, the nursery would take the two to eight-year-olds between 7.30am and 6.15pm on weekdays.

But Field Place Area Residents' Association, which represents 1,300 people, has asked for extra time for those living nearby to lodge objections.

The proposed site is near Worthing College, where Asda plans to build a supermarket.

Some neighbours feel parking problems caused by students taking up spaces would be exacerbated by the nursery.

One said: "The road is already very heavily parked during daylight hours due to the sixth form college.

"The comings and goings of 24 parents and staff would add to the traffic chaos and make residents' lives a misery. The site has a yellow line outside it.

"However, with restricted off-street parking and no on-street parking, it is very unlikely parents will comply with the parking restriction.

"They will park illegally on this dangerous bend and restrict the view for other users. It is not safe for children to alight at this point."

Another neighbour said: "It would be extremely unfair to subject residents to more noise pollution and parking problems.

A spokesman for the residents' association said: "There are already flourishing nurseries in the grounds of Worthing College and Field Place."
