Sol Gilbert is aiming to complete the third stage of his masterplan at the end of November.

The reigning European Champions Cup and British Ultimate Combat middleweight champion will attempt to win the world title on November 30 and complete a hat-trick of belts in one year.

Gilbert, from Brighton, won the vacant British belt last weekend when he stopped the formidable All Ireland MMA champion David Patterson at Chippenham.

Patterson had a 17-fight 100 per cent record but a 'flash knockout' when the opponent is knocked unconscious but immediately comes round forced the referees to stop the contest in the first round.

Gilbert said: "I am two-thirds of the way to completing my game-plan.

"I was really happy to beat Patterson as he was more experienced, had won all his fights and was the Irish champion.

"I was proud to beat him in the first round."

Former British and Commonwealth heavyweight boxing champion Scott Welch, from Shoreham, helped Gilbert prepare for his British title tilt.

The boxer sparred with Gilbert in the build-up to the fight.

Gilbert said: "The sparring helped sharpen me up.

"The way I looked at it, nobody was going to hit me any harder than Scott did.

"He is very quick and agile. He has a welterweight's speed in a heavyweight's body and it helped me prepare."

Gilbert, who will feature in an article in the Observer Sport magazine, was delighted with the support he got at the Olympiad Leisure Centre.

He said: "I have about 150 people who come from Brighton and south London who follow me and I really appreciate it."

Pro-Am Gym middleweight Albert Brewster beat Mark Dayrell of Hastings at the Casino Rooms, Rochester, last Sunday to record his second kick-boxing victory in three outings. He drew his other contest.
