Mark Winton rounded off a great season by finishing second overall in the South East Road Race League.

The Telscombe rider has already won this year's Sussex Senior Track League and the series of circuit races held at Hove Park.

Winton (Lewes Wanderers) has been a model of consistency all season and only finished outside of the top ten once in the ten South-East League races that he competed in.

He finally finished just two points behind Kent rider Mark Powell (VC Deal) and may well have won the league but for the cancellation of one of the events.

Seaford rider Dave Pollard (In Gear) is now the proud owner of a national championship jersey after winning the 45-49 age group category in the British Masters time trial championships.

He clocked 51min.48sec over two laps of the 10.5-mile circuit near Chester.

Pollard said: "It was a tough course with a couple of steep climbs and some rain showers meant you had to take care on the corners. I was very pleased to bring back a champion's jersey."

Helen Carter (Eastbourne Rovers) finished a creditable ninth in the women's championship in a time of 57min. 51sec.

Storrington rider Mark Jones (GS Stella) was the first Sussex rider in the VC St Raphael's 25-mile time trial in Hampshire, finishing tenth in 55min.53sec.

The winner was the promoting club's Rowan Horner in 51min.36sec.

Aaron Stanton (St Raphael) and James Millard (API) head the field for the Bognor Regis CC's 25-mile event on Sunday. The HQ is Aldingbourne Community Centre and it starts at 7.30am.

Newly-crowned Sussex 25-mile champion Steve Dennis (East Grinstead) is among the field of 83 for the East Sussex CA's 10-mile trial at East Hoathly on Saturday (2.30pm).

Also entered are Tristan Court (Brighton Mitre), Brian Phillips (East Grinstead) and Ron Keeble (34th Nomads).
