Drugs worth thousands of pounds were discovered during a police raid.

The haul, found at a house in Old Town, Eastbourne, is believed to be heroin and crack cocaine worth an estimated £50,000.

Two men were arrested after the raid yesterday morning and were taken in for questioning on suspicion of possessing Class A substances with intent to supply.

Officers raided the property as part of Operation Resolve, a week-long offensive to stamp out violent crime often associated with drugs.

Chief Inspector Martin Stevens, Eastbourne District Commander, said: "The link between drug and other types of crime, such as street violence, is well known and well documented.

"These arrests come just a few weeks after Eastbourne launched its largest and most high-profile offensive on drugs and suppliers.

"Today's activity shows we will not let up in our mission to rid the town of drugs and those allegedly involved in the dirty underworld of dealing and supplying."

Operation Resolve, which finishes on Sunday involves high-visibility patrols at the town's hotspots and a concentrated effort to enforce the street drinking ban.

Police officers are working closely with street wardens and British Transport Police to see it is adhered to at the station and known hangouts.

Officers will also be on school buses and carrying out regular patrols outside secondary schools.

Mr Stevens said: "The aim of this operation is to reduce violence and make the streets of the town safer.

"I hope the highly visible approach by the officers engaged on Operation Resolve will reassure the public and make them feel safer too."
