Work is due to start on road improvements designed to aid pedestrians and bus passengers in a busy shopping street in Brighton.
Road humps and chicanes in Western Road will be removed and the road will be resurfaced.
New pedestrian crossing islands will be created, as well as extra loading-only areas to help traders service their businesses.
Brighton and Hove city councillor Simon Battle, who looks after transport, said: "The improvements will make it easier for buses to negotiate Western Road and give passengers a smoother ride.
"The new pedestrian islands will also make this busy area of the city easier to cross.
"Every effort is being made to keep delays to traffic to a minimum and we have scheduled the job to run into the normal resurfacing work."
The work is due to run from Monday to the end of October. Two-way lights will be used to control traffic at certain times.
Sussex Police will step up enforcement in the road during the work.
