Cuckmere Valley League: Alfriston were crowned champions for a second successive year after the narrowest of finishes to the season.

The defending champions finished level on points with Blackboys but Alfriston took the title by virtue of beating Blackboys twice this season.

Dick Sorrell top scored with 58 as Alfriston made 152 all out at home to Selmeston.

Adrian Beale struck 28 in reply but the visitors were dismissed for 99 with Sorrell taking 3-10 and Simon Harmer 3-30.

Blackboys conceded 46 extras as hosts Bells Yew Green chalked up 200-7 with Will Rodgers hitting an unbeaten 63.

In reply, Colin Albright led the way with 67 as Blackboys edged home in the last over with one wicket to spare.

East Dean went into the last day of the season still with an outside chance of lifting the title but lost by nine wickets at home to Denton. Mike Dixon's 54 not out helped the hosts set 165-6 but Denton passed that with just one wicket down thanks to Martin Foard (70) and Dave Ellis (67 not out).

Withyham were relegated after losing away to Firle. The hosts made 186-5 with Richard Gravett scoring 58 and Richard Ellinor 42. Phil Adams and Ian Adams struck 35 apiece in reply but Withyham fell just short on 180-8 at the close.
