Off spinner Noel Brett claimed 12 wickets as Sussex's second XI dived to their third successive championship defeat with a day to spare against Surrey at Hove.

Sussex, replying to Surrey's 575, were dismissed for 306 and then, following on 269 behind, they were bowled out for 325 to leave Surrey only 57 to win.

The visitors lost Chris Salmons for 22 to Carl Hopkinson in cruising home by nine wickets in 8.5 overs.

Beaten by an innings by Yorkshire last week, Sussex went down heavily again as Brett followed up his first innings 7-114 by taking 5-124.

Plus points for Sussex were a fine first innings century and then 50 for Dutchman Bas Zuiderent and two explosive 50s from Horsham's hard-hitting Australian Michael Bright.

Zuiderent, resuming on 80 with Sussex 269-8, finished unbeaten on 102 with 11 fours and a six off 177 balls as Sussex added 37 in 46 minutes.

He later added 105 for the third wicket with Neil Turk as Sussex followed on, and Turk had fired 16 fours in making 84 from 100 balls when he was trapped leg before by Brett.

Bright, batting with a runner due to a foot injury, smashed four fours and four sixes in making 52 off just 22 balls.

Scores: Surrey: 575 and 57-1; Sussex: 306 and 325.
