Hove was one of the first resorts in Britain to build a dedicated cycle lane along its seafront.
It was a relief for cyclists who, until then, had been forced to ride along the busy and dangerous A259 coast road.
But many cyclists are breaking the law and riding along the pedestrianised promenade, often at breakneck speed.
Following a spate of accidents, police are cracking down on the offenders - and not before time.
There's simply no need for people to ride along the prom when they have their own lanes nearby.
However, the lane does badly need repaving and realigning in some stretches and efforts should be made to keep pedestrians off it.
The prom is wide enough in most parts of Hove for cyclists and walkers to enjoy themselves without getting in each others' way.
