Alan Pook reckons he is two signings away from having a potential title-winning team at Worthing.

He was hoping to add the first of those new names last night and there could be a third signing in the form of Gavin Geddes.

The Horsham striker is believed to be considering a return to Woodside Road.

That would be a bonus for Rebels boss Pook, who already has Sam Francis and Mark Knee as his front two.

His most wanted men are a big centre back and a midfield playmaker.

Pook watched the midweek win over Molesey, then said: "We are two players away from the side we want.

"The side we have at present is good enough to finish in the top seven.

"To win it, we are two players away. If we get those I would be more than happy not to sign another player this season."

By yesterday, Pook has slightly reined himself in, saying two signings would make his side no more than title challengers.

That caution may be down to a series of injury setbacks.

Among those suffering are Darren Freeman, who would have started against Whyteleafe tomorrow but for a groin problem.

It is defence though where teething troubles must be ironed out.

Former Albion stopper Ross Johnson is not considered fit enough to play two games in four days but could be back tomorrow.

Pook added: "I won't tolerate some of the defending I saw on Tuesday. It has no place in the Ryman League."

Ross Standen makes his Worthing debut in goal after recovering From a hernia operation.

Steffan Ball is likely to be given a start up front as Horsham entertain Croydon.

That means Simon Ullathorne dropping into midfield alongside Lee Carney with Stuart Hardy returning to his more usual left back role.

Striker Gavin Geddes is looking short of match fitness and missed a penalty in midweek but boss John Maggs insisted: "The only way I'm going to get him in shape is by playing him."
