Ian Hills may like to know that I am not now and never have been a member of the Labour left (Letters, August 15).

I do, however, support greater European integration for the very good reason that it is securing peace, social justice, greater economic prosperity and sound environmental policies in a region which has been riven by wars and nationalistic protectionism for centuries.

Mr Hills' letter is full of the invective with which he seeks to label me.

If he dislikes the word paranoia, I leave others to read his rantings and make up their own minds.

He does not answer my previous concerns about this country being drawn ever closer to the economic and political agendas of the USA.

I would have thought, since he is a card-carrying member of the UK Independence Party, that he would certainly have an opinion on this.

Finally, it is great news that his party has the fourth largest paid-up membership.

Perhaps he could remind me of the total votes cast for it in the last local and national elections in comparison with the others and how many of his candidates lost their deposits?
