Having just read the article on the subject of someone putting up a home-made speed camera on the A272 near Cowfold (The Argus, August 7), does Emma Rogers of the Sussex Safety Camera Partnership realise what she has said in her comment?

I quote from the article: "A home-made camera could cause problems with traffic suddenly braking if there was no sign to warn them."

But Emma, there is one - a 30mph sign. If drivers stuck to the speed limit, they wouldn't need to brake suddenly.

Having recently retired I am in no hurry when driving and therefore stick to the appropriate speed limits.

I can therefore confirm that between 80 and 90 per cent of drivers are in such a hurry in this pressurised life we live that they drive 10 to 20 mph above the speed limits, except - of course - over the short distance covered by speed cameras.
