Kris Trevor was the toast of East Grinstead as he fired the top flight new boys to a 3-0 opening day win.

Now Grinstead are preparing for a derby against Three Bridges, who beat another of the promoted teams on Saturday.

Trevor smashed home a Steve Banks cross, then finished off good work from Dave Gellatly against Pagham as the Matthew Clark League campaign got under way.

The treble was completed on 61 minutes from the spot after Pagham skipper Matt Beard fouled his Grinstead counterpart Kevin Wright.

Promoted Eastbourne Town were ahead briefly at the Jubilee Field and Three Bridges boss Sammy Donnelly expects his old club to stay up.

He said: "They will be okay. They are a hard working young side."

Yemi Odubade put Town ahead on 15 minutes.

Simon Funnell dragged Bridges level, then set up Pat Massaro for what turned out to be the winner.

Donnelly added: "We can do better but we know sides will not let us play when they come here."

Second Division champions Rye opened with a decent 1-1 draw at Chichester City United, debut striker Simon Fox turning sharply to fire the leveller five minutes from time.

Rye boss Glyn White felt his side had a lot of the first half but they came under heavy pressure after the break, during which time Jamie Laidlaw edged Chi in front.

St Leonards signed Horsham striker Dave Flemming on Friday night and he hit their winner in a 2-1 success at Selsey.

Saints' first game back in the County League since 1996 got off to a flying start as Dean Thomas fired them ahead after five minutes, only for Luis Rodrigues to level.

Dave Carey was involved in both goals as Sidley won 2-1 at Shoreham.

He chased a back pass to force his side ahead on minutes.

Matt Kelly replied on 81 minutes during Shoreham's best spell, heading home at the far post after Darren Annis had crossed.

Substitute Mark Freeman moved on to a Carey flick for the winner just two minutes later.

Shoreham boss Jim Downey insisted: "We deserved a point."

Brad Poole was outstanding at the back for Sidley, who go to St Leonards in an eagerly awaited derby on Wednesday.

Hassocks had a solid 2-0 success at East Preston, Luke Flomo setting them on their way after being set free by Pat Harding.

Andy Hibbert clinched the points in some style late on as he let fly from 25 yards.

Robins boss Dave John said: "We played as I expect us to play."

Two goals in quick succession in the first 20 minutes proved enough to give Hailsham Town victory at home to Horsham YMCA.

Paul Richardson opened the scoring after Scott French's shot had been blocked, then French's ball into the box was turned into the net by a YM defender.

New signing Tim Brown, the former Burgess Hill midfielder, made it 2-1 ten minutes from time but Hailsham held on.

Summer signing Stuart Garrod bagged an 85th minute winner as Ringmer beat Redhill 2-1.

Chris Johnson headed Ringmer into a first half lead but Like Jones levelled midway through the second half. Garrod, signed from Southwick, drove home a cross in the closing stages to seal victory.

Southwick ran out 2-1 winners away to Arundel despite having Mark Allwright sent off.

Tony Holden's first-half opener for Wickers was cancelled out by a Miles Scerri penalty on 65 minutes but Jack Dineen struck ten minutes later to complete the win.
