While the King Alfred site needs redevelopment, this should not be at the price of destroying so much of Hove's character and appearance.
Councillors should reflect that some of their predecessors favoured the destruction of Brunswick Square, Brunswick Terrace and Adelaide Crescent, as well as many of Brighton's seafront squares and even (Ken Bodfish please note) the Royal Pavilion.
It took a town poll in 1965 to stop Hove's councillors from demolishing Adelaide Crescent's fine ramps.
Once again, the wishes of the majority of Hove's residents must prevail over the wishes of a few councillors.
If not, the incongruity of Embassy Court, next to Brunswick Terrace, will be nothing compared to the architectural nightmare which some councillors (and even some journalists) seem determined to inflict on Hove.
