Sixteen firefighters battled a blaze in a Worthing burger bar last night.
Crews were called to the Ace Burger Bar, in South Road, Tarring, after the cooking range caught fire at around 7.20pm.
Flames licked up into the extraction duct, smokelogging a flat above the burger bar.
An elderly woman was escorted to safety by members of the public before the brigade arrived.
A spokesman for Worthing fire station said: "The fire was under control within about 15 minutes, but then there is the investigation work that goes on afterwards. I think we probably limited the damage fairly well."
No one from Ace Burgers was available for comment this morning.
