Sussex are calling on their potential matchwinners with the ball to throw Warwickshire's title bid off course.

The sides meet at Hove in a Frizzell County Championship first division clash starting tomorrow (11am) with Sussex keen to avenge defeat at Edgbaston earlier this season.

They will also be looking to build on the feelgood factor of three wins before packed houses in the Twenty20 Cup.

James Kirtley and Mushtaq Ahmed have taken 73 wickets between them in the Championship to date at a cost of 25 apiece and will be key figures for an attack-minded home side.

Skipper Chris Adams said: "We have pledged to try and play attacking cricket in the Championship and it obviously helps that we have got two genuine strike bowlers now in James and Mushy.

"There's a lot to play for and I would be lying if I said that we would not cherish a win over Warwickshire more than any other this season."

That determination to win is largely down to Sussex's poor record against Warwickshire.

Last year's late-season win at Hove extended the Midlanders' domination over Sussex to a decade and they are keen to continue that run in a bid to challenge Surrey for the title.

Spinner Mushtaq will be raring to go again, despite turning down the chance of a rest during the recent series of limited overs games.

Adams said: "Mushtaq is a mad keen cricketer and he wants to do so well for this club.

"It's extraordinary to have an overseas player with his mindset and we're the only ones that benefit from that. He wants to play four-day, one-day, Twenty20, he loves it.

"He's got a thirst and a passion for the game and he is already one of, if not the, most significant signing the club has ever made."

Sussex's only injury absentee is Billy Taylor.

Opener Richard Montgomerie will be expected to return after missing the Twenty20 triumphs.

Warwickshire batsman Jim Troughton is with the England squad.
