A fisherman who raped a teenage girl just months after being released from prison for an almost identical attack has been jailed for life.

John Anslow plied his 15-year-old victim with alcohol before leading her into a field at knifepoint where she was raped.

Afterwards, he asked the terrified girl to give "one good reason" why she should live and warned her to act normally or be killed.

Just five months before, Anslow had been released from prison for raping a 14-year-old girl at knifepoint in 1996.

Then, he lured the girl on to a friend's boat, held a knife to her cheek and said: "If you moan, I'll cut you once. If you scream, I'll cut you twice. If you scream again I'll cut you into pieces like I do with my bait." He then raped her.

Both girls were called to give evidence during Anslow's ten-day trial at Chichester Crown Court. He had denied attacking the 15-year-old but was convicted by a jury of rape in May.

During the trial, Gillian Etherton, prosecuting, said: "Having heard the defendant's explanation of what happened between himself and the victim, is it likely that lightning could strike twice? Is it likely two girls could come out with the same tale about the man, having never met?"

Judge Sessions told Anslow, 42 of Glen Crescent, Selsey, who returned to court this week to be sentenced: "That you put her through this experience for a second time underlines your lack of remorse even now. In my judgement you present a great danger to adolescent women."

Anslow will serve at least seven years and 203 days in prison.

He was banned from working with children and ordered to sign on the sex offenders' register for life.

The judge made a restraining order to prevent Anslow sharing accommodation with a girl aged under 16 or acting as a girl's carer.

Anslow had raped the 15-year-old after taking her and a group of teenagers on a seaside camping trip to West Sands Caravan Site, Selsey, in September last year.
