A West Sussex car park plagued by vandalism has been closed.
Conservationists have shut the site at Fairmile on the A29 at Madehurst, near Arundel, because of "ongoing inappropriate use".
A spokeswoman for the Sussex Downs Conservation Board said: "For a while now it has been used for fly-tipping and burnt out cars as well as other inappropriate uses.
"We felt that we needed to protect the health and safety of the public who visit the site. We have not taken this decision lightly and have consulted the public."
She said surveys of people who used the nearby Fairmile Local Nature Reserve revealed that most were parking in the lay-bys to get to the open grassland area.
West Sussex County Council, Arun District Council and Sussex Police all backed the plan to close the car park.
