Campaigners are celebrating after it was announced a speed limit will be reduced on a busy village road.

West Sussex County Council is to reduce the 30mph restriction in Grinstead Lane, Lancing, by 10mph, following years of lobbying by Lancing Parish Council.

Council chairman Joy Hartley said: "The parish council has been badgering and pressing for many years for this very welcome reduction to the speed limit in this road.

"It has undoubtedly been a victory for common sense and will provide a good deal of comfort to parents and children attending Freshbrook School as well as the residents of Grinstead Lane."

Parish clerk Richard Wickens said: "This is not a new issue, and for many years the council has been representing the concerns of residents to the county council regarding the speed of traffic in Grinstead Lane."
