A couple who tried to book their old honeymoon suite to celebrate their first anniversary got an unexpected bonus - some of their uncollected wedding presents.

When Sarah and Stuart Kempton called The Brighton Hotel in Kings Road, Brighton, to make the booking, they were shocked to learn their name was already well known to staff.

A year after they tied the knot, the hotel still had some of their wedding gifts and had been unable to contact them to hand them back.

Now Sarah and Stuart have been reunited with the mystery gifts - a wine rack and a pair of crystal champagne flutes.

They have no idea who the gifts are from, as they were not wrapped and there were no cards accompanying them.

Stuart, 27, said: "When I called to make the booking, the man at the end of the phone recognised my name and said he had been trying to contact me for the last year.

"He said he had been keeping hold of a few bits for me from the wedding day. On the day, we only asked for gift vouchers because we were renting our home and had nowhere to put things.

"The few people who did bring gifts left them behind the reception desk and we thought we had collected them all before we left. These two gifts must somehow have been forgotten about.

"My mobile phone has been playing up and we have moved house so perhaps that is why the hotel could not get hold of me."

Sarah and Stuart, of Woodleigh Road, Burgess Hill, collected their presents on Friday. They will return to the hotel for their anniversary in August.

Sarah, 23, said: "I was so surprised they had kept hold of the gifts for all this time. It is quite embarrassing really because we don't have a clue who they are from.

"We had so much on our minds on our wedding day and had to rush off on honeymoon straight afterwards so it is hardly surprising we left them behind."

The couple have now bought a house and their new gifts are taking pride of place. Stuart said: "The glasses are really nice and we didn't have a wine rack so it is really the ideal gift.

"I just hope whoever bought them for us has not been to our house and wondered where they are."
