Ryman League: Barry Lloyd takes Worthing's first training session of pre-season tomorrow amid growing confusion as to who is in charge at Woodside Road.

Alan Pook, recently appointed as director of football, has revealed he is to be joint first team manager with Lloyd at the club.

Club president and director Morty Hollis, however, claims to have no knowledge of such an arrangement.

Meanwhile Lloyd insists it is too early to discuss specific managerial roles.

Pook, who resigned as chief executive at Withdean recently, said: "The best way to describe my role is I am in charge of football.

"That goes from the youth set-up to the first team which I will manage with Barry Lloyd.

"We will work together. That is how I see my role.

"I have known Barry a long time. He has always been his own boss, as have I, but we have been talking for about eight months and we have got to try and make it work."

Hollis however said the title of joint manager was news to him.

Asked for confirmation of the appointment, he said: "I would be very surprised.

"I have never heard of them being joint managers.

"Alan will be helping Barry and putting players his way, that type of thing."

Lloyd said he had had one meeting so far with Pook and added: "There is no reason to discuss roles and details yet."

He welcomed the prospect of Pook bringing in players from Withdean, saying: "There are obviously players in the Withdean set-up who may fancy proving themselves at a higher standard. That's what I'm hoping."

Withdean striker Sam Francis is poised to sign for Rebels with brothers Sean and Shane O'Sullivan, an Irish duo who play in midfield and defence respectively, also in talks.

Pook has set his sights on promotion for Worthing's first team and the development of a strong youth set-up at the club.

Mark Stevens, general manager at Withdean last season, is set to join Worthing in a similar role.

Lloyd will be in charge of training tomorrow and on Sunday while Pook is out of the area.
